Sensorimotor/Polyvagal Therapy:

"To omit the body as a target of therapeutic action is, to my way of thinking, an unfortunate oversight that deprives clients of a much-needed avenue of self-knowledge and change.” (Ogden, 2015, p. 13).

As Trauma Experts, We Strongly Believe in a Holistic Approach to Mental Health and Wellness.

The body is a reflection of unresolved trauma, attachment disorders and other relationship challenges.  Helping clients understand the impact of their traumatic experiences on their bodies, and begin to heal all aspects of the self is at the core of the work we do.  Sensorimotor therapy is an attachment-oriented approach, often called the “body-oriented talking therapy.”  This treatment modality is very effective for trauma survivors, helping to restore emotional regulation, and calming the anxious and depressive symptoms which can lead people to struggle with relationships, addiction, and daily routines.

Polyvagal therapy, an aspect of Sensorimotor work, draws on our knowledge of the body’s Nervous system.  Polyvagal therapy was developed by Steven Porges, and he coined the term “neuroception” to help us better understand the autonomic nervous system, and how to use this knowledge to support calm, regulation of our bodies.  Through this approach, clients are encouraged to value their own strengths, and to view their trauma symptoms as messengers, and adaptive responses to external stimuli.  Our skilled clinicians will support you in embracing your mind/body experience and teach you how to lean in to your intense emotions.  This approach to healing is very gentle and can be incredibly effective.  There is great opportunity for self-reflection, personal growth, and increased awareness, through this approach as clients and their therapists explore the legacy of attachment relationships, beliefs and the body, making sense of emotions, and boundary styles in relationships.  Clients who embark on this therapeutic journey experience results oriented growth and self-actualization within the safety of a calming, authentic therapeutic environment.
